What Could Be Lying Behind an Antivirus Download?

Are you looking for an antivirus and prefer to get it over the internet via a download? There is no problem with that as long as you know for sure that the software you will be downloading is coming from the genuine vendor website. For example, let’s assume you are looking for antivirus download by googling the “antivirus download” keyword.
You get lots of links to antivirus downloads, what next?
The problem is, which antivirus download is the reliable one and just the right one for your purpose? There are antivirus downloads that are for sale, antivirus downloads that are for free and ones that are for review / trial. Oh and please note that there are antivirus download that are actually trojans and viruses themselves pretending to be antivirus software. That could be a big problem, right? I’m listing here some links that I have reviewed myself as genuine links from the vendors, and thus, trustworthy.
bitdefender antivirus software
BitDefender has 3 major downloads and two additional security software solutions, which are 30 day trial versions:
- Antivirus 2009
- Internet Security 2009
- Total Security 2009
- BitDefender GameSafe
- Mobile Security v2
You can buy a license (renew your BitDefender license Key, so they call it) anytime you want if you feel like using it.
kaspersky antivirus software
This is a free trial, runs for 30 days with full online update. After that, you can no longer use it unless you decide to purchase a license. Not bad if you only want to scan your system at a period, but do not want to use an antivirus permanently, or if you just want to try, to see which one is the best for you. Other than this antivirus download, there are also trial for business and trial for corporation downloads with more choices of products such as trials for 5 or 10 licenses for workstation and one for server. The trial for corporation antivirus download requires you to fill up a form to customize your specific solution, due to the complexity of enterprise networks and multi-platform systems that are usually implemented.
symantec antivirus software
Here, you can try their trialware – so they call it – for 30 days. Just look in the security tree list. They have solutions ranging from antivirus to scan engine (embeddable to your own application), as what they call their products. However, by the time I write this, I still cannot use the trialware buttons to finally download the products I want to try, other than its featured trialware, which is at this time only one, the Online Backup.
avast! antivirus software
The first three types have 60 days trial. You can choose the one that fits your need:
- Desktop Protection: avast! Professional Edition for antivirus.
- Small Business Protection: avast! SBS Suite which is designed for Widows Small Business Servers.
- Corporate Solution: avast! Enterprise Suite which is a network security software solution for corporate customers.
- Free Software: avast! Home Edition which Free for home users.
avg antivirus software
AVG has got three kinds of software to offer, all of which also has 30 days free trial period:
- AVG Anti-Virus. This one consists of regular antivirus download, malwares, and also adware protection download.
- AVG Identity Protection. This one does not protect against virus or malwares, but it concentrates on preventing identity theft.
- AVG Internet Security. This one is the most comprehensive types of all three, with all the abilities the other two types have to offer plus additional anti-hack protection and spam prevention.

Other than it’s ActiveScan 2.0, Panda Security also offers a free online scan. These products are featured as having a non traditional Collective Intelligence (scanning-in-the-cloud) security solution as they name it. There are three types of download you can choose:
- Free: It has all scanning and detection features including the scanning-in-the-cloud feature, but it does not disinfect nor give technical support for this type of download.
- Register: This kind of antivirus download only requires registration, giving added features of viruses, worms and trojans disinfection. It still lacks the complete malware disinfection and technical support though.
- Paid: With this antivirus download, all features are there, including complete malware disinfection and technical support.
